One More Equals Four | Rancho Cordova Newborn Portraits

I have now had the fortune to photograph not only one, but BOTH of this family’s babies for their newborn portraits.

Meet little Miss Kylie. I wanted to take her home with me. Seriously. She’s one of the sweetest, most cuddly babies I have ever met.

Land Park Newborn Pictures

I remember the email I received from this family for their Land Park newborn pictures. Mom had booked another photographer for the shoot but she had ended up calling in sick the day before. So, the next day I got an email from mom asking if I could come on short notice, and it just happened to work out perfectly that someone else had rescheduled so I had an opening that day.

I arrived to their cute little house in Land Park with big sister introducing herself as soon as I walked in the door.

a new little sister | rocklin newborn portraits

There was something unspeakably sweet about how this big sister hugged her new little sister. Mom and Dad were hovering close by and she slayed us all with her big blue eyes.

Tiburon Professional Newborn Portraits

This was my first trip to Tiburon for this family’s professional newborn portraits and what a treat it was! They mentioned having a pretty little church at the top of the hill near their home, so we drove up to visit it. How perfect!

“before and after” sacramento newborn baby portraits

Do you remember this family from their pregnancy portraits by the pond a few months ago? Well, here’s their darling little girl, Katelyn, ready to show of her serious cute-factor to the world.

I always love the “before and after” from pregnancy to newborn:

sacramento newborn baby with toddler sister

When Kati contacted me a few weeks ago to book a newborn session for their second daughter, I was thrilled! I photographed their first baby, Makeda, and just loved everything about this family so getting to visit again is not only an honor, but fun for me as well.

When I showed up at their door in Citrus Heights, they had music playing and Makeda was getting her hair done by her hair stylist auntie (lucky – wish I could’ve grown up with a hair stylist for an aunt!). After setting up, we got a few of brand new baby Marley’s big soulful eyes.

Some parents are concerned that their newborn baby won’t be perfect the day of their big shoot, but it’s pretty simple and can really go one way or the other — awake or asleep. If the baby is awake when I arrive, we start with family photos. If the baby is asleep when I arrive, we start with just the baby alone. Today we started with family pictures and both of the girls were just wonderful. I couldn’t get over Makeda’s curls and bubbly personality and probably said, “she’s SO cute” enough times to annoy mom and dad, lol! Here’s Makeda, all “growed” up.

After a good long feeding, little Marley fell asleep. She was just perfect for her session, sleeping soundly through it all. That’s the beauty of doing these sessions during the 5-7 day old window — babies sleep so much that the session is easy on everybody.

She even let me put a little crown on her.

happy baby

Here are just a few of my favorites of this beautiful happy baby. Her mom and dad actually drove down with her from Oregon to take pictures and to see friends and family. She was a dream for the drive and a dream for her session — I think a trend is starting here!

madam “s” | los angeles newborn portraits

I think little Miss Madam “S” knew I was headed down to LA and timed her arrival perfectly for her newborn portraits. She was only four days old for this shoot and she couldn’t have been any more perfect. She was sleepy and happy and so perfectly chubby. And her hair….omg.

P.S. – “Madam S” is short for “Savannah”. What a sweet name!

are you kidding me???

Are you kidding me? Could she be any cuter? Just before I photographed the image below, her mom said to me, “The most important prop is the crown,” and then Sage chimed in with her little smile — it couldn’t have been better timing!

Oh, and she also wins a special place in my heart for having the same birthday as me — April 21st! How fun!

P.S. – Sage’s beautiful mama is also a very talented esthetician! You can find her website and scheduling page HERE (and check out her lovely profile pic — wild guess on who took it, lol!). I treat myself to a facial with her every month or two and it’s amaaaaaaazing.

sweet + soft newborn portraits

At the wise old age of two weeks, little Ivan didn’t want to fall asleep for his session, but it gave his mom and me a chance to spend some time together and chat about things like fabric baby carriers and making homemade chicken stock (something we both like to do).

When I have the opportunity to spend a little extra time getting to know a family, I get a to peer into their world in a different way than if I were just a stranger. It gives me a chance to capture images on a more intimate level and reveal those soft sweet kisses, gurgling coos, and bright soulful eyes, embraced by the soft, sweet lavender light of an overcast morning. These are the kind of images I hope to have of my own one day.
