What’s big at the moment is “lifestyle newborn photography.” Lifestyle photography in general has been a pretty hot item for a while now, but it’s not very well understood by the general public. You’ve probably heard of it, but I get asked all of the time, “What is lifestyle photography?” Wikipedia defines it as:
“A style of portrait/people photography which aims to capture and document real-life events, situations, or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday.”
Incorporating the “art of the everyday”, this style of photography aims to portray a glimpse into a family’s life, veering away from the formally posed family portraits that we all grew up with and know well (thank you, Sears). For those of you looking for “natural”, “unposed” or “candid” pictures, this may be right up your alley.
Lifestyle photography concepts carry over beautifully into the newborn session. A shoot like this one is perfect for anyone wanting to do a newborn session for a baby is that is a little older (2+ weeks old), since no special posing is required. For this family, we focused on moments at home between mom, dad and the kids.
Dad giving his little girl a tight swaddle to keep her happy:
Big brother showing off his brand-new baby sister:
Mom having a sweet moment in the nursery (love the little bird mobile):
Darling little baby girl, along with a close-up of her itty-bitty toes:
I love these little teepees they are selling for kids now!
And those big blue eyes!
The whole family cuddled on the bed (one of my favorite places to take pictures):
Big brother getting familiar with his little sister (one of my favorite shots from the session):
Lifestyle newborn sessions are perfect for families with homes that they would like to showcase in their pictures.
Or if they like to showcase their pictures in their pictures… Ha!
And it’s always good to end with a little silliness!
