When I have the opportunity to spend a little extra time getting to know a family, I get a to peer into their world in a different way than if I were just a stranger. It gives me a chance to capture images on a more intimate level and reveal those soft sweet kisses, gurgling coos, and bright soulful eyes, embraced by the soft, sweet lavender light of an overcast morning. These are the kind of images I hope to have of my own one day.

This last set of images is a fun little 20″ x 20″ collage concept for when your baby is full of expressions and he had lots! So sweet!

We struck out to a nearby pond. The sun was nice and low in the sky, perfect for the setting. We walked by this spot in the trees and it’s like it called my name, asking to be used for this very image. I think it’s one of my all-time favorites. I made such a dork out of myself when I took the picture…I distinctly remember doing a totally unfiltered dance when I saw it in the back of the camera, lol!

Even the ducks participated. What a pretty spot amongst the yellow flowers.

We captured a few in their back yard and I love how the curve of the pool draws the eye to her face and the image is sort of “cradled” by the trees and grass.

Doing a little experimenting this week — which do you like the better, the images on the top or bottom? I’m playing with some new editing techniques…

My mommy and daddy live in a house in Silver Lake that they designed themselves. They are really good at that stuff. My sister is a French Bulldog named Ava and she already loves me even though she’s only known me for nine days.

My mommy also really loves me and she likes to snuggle all day long. That’s okay with me because I like to snuggle, too. And nurse. A lot.

Sometimes my daddy wants to hold me, too. That’s really the only thing my parents argue about these days…who gets to hold me. I like it.

I think my mommy and daddy love me. Like a lot. They can’t stop looking at me. Sometimes my Auntie Jill asks them to look at her while she’s holding that big camera, but they can’t stop looking at me. That’s okay with me, though.

Oh, and this is my cousin, River. She’s really cute, too. She never stops smiling. And drooling. But then she smiles some more. I like her.

Okay, now my auntie gets a turn…

If you haven’t already guessed, Olivia is my brand-new niece.  You saw a sort of “sneak peek” of her from her parents’ maternity session a couple of months ago. I got to spend some time with her in LA recently and everybody is completely, head-over-heels in love with our newest family member. I couldn’t stop taking pictures of her…I’m addicted.

Loving the way they coordinated their clothing with the perfect combination of light aqua and plaids for spring.

This lovely couple thought they’d warm up for their newborn session with a short and sweet maternity session amongst the orange trees.

I couldn’t get enough of this little guy. He just smiled and smiled and smiled.

So sweet! I love this age when they are old enough to be super easy to work with but they still openly adore their mama.

I’ve been photographing this lovely family for several years now, and every time I come over for another session, we all know each other that much better, and, for a brief moment, I get invited to document their carefully crafted and beautiful world. That’s a pretty big honor and I don’t take it for granted for one second.

This is the one where big brother is really holding it together…

And then he can’t hold it in one more second! Ahhhhh, but I love these ones!
