This sunny afternoon in the lavender fields was such a fun one to photograph! This beautiful family of three brought the smiles, the fun, and the sweetest energy. With all the laughter and bright sun, it was a perfect day to make some joyful summer memories together.

Lavender fields make for a stunning backdrop. The rows of color and gentle hum of bees makes this a really peaceful setting. The best part? Lavender blooms are much more predictable than wildflowers. In the Sacramento area, lavender typically blooms between late May and July, which means we can actually plan ahead and coordinate shoots when the fields are at their peak. I have a few favorite local farms I love to shoot at, and they never disappoint when it comes to dreamy color and soft texture.

While I don’t usually recommend matching outfits in one color, this family’s coordinated white look worked beautifully. Against the soft lavender backdrop, it gave everything an ethereal, timeless feel. What made it work especially well was the variety in textures and subtle prints — Dad in a soft polka dot, Mom in linen, and their little one with a delicate floral accent. It created harmony without feeling too matchy-matchy.

As with all my sessions, I’m here to help well before the shoot even begins. From location scouting to outfit suggestions, I love helping families prepare so the session feels easy and genuine. My goal is to take the stress and guesswork out of your session. You deserve to feel present and enjoy the moment! The planning we do ahead of time makes all the difference when it’s time to step in front of the camera.

If you’ve been dreaming of lavender in your family photos, now’s the time to reach out! Let’s get your session on the calendar while the fields are in bloom!
