In case you didn’t know, this Sacramento photographer LOVES incorporating your dog into family photos! They are such a special part of your family, and it’s natural to want to include them. This Downtown Sacramento session was a blast with this sweet family and their furry friend. It goes to show that you can still include your pets even in a more urban setting!

There are some incredible murals in our city that make great backdrops for photographs. I love this tiger mural in the parking lot. This location allows kids and dogs to still run around while keeping that urban look and feel. It’s important to have space to play in the midst of the more posed portraits, especially when there’s a pet involved!

I always encourage families to bring props that mark the season of life for children. This boy is a big fan of the “Dog Man” book series, and even brought his stuffed animal along. I love that the family can look back on this time through their photos.

This dog was a natural model, always looking at the camera and giving a big smile. Of course, we had toys at the ready to keep him engaged.

Rooftop locations have become some of my new favorites! The autumn sunset provided the most beautiful lighting as you can see the city starting to light up all around them.
