I’m back from my honeymoon and had a WONDERFUL time in Croatia and England. Blogging while away didn’t prove to be as easy as I thought it would be simply due to the fact that internet access wasn’t available everywhere we stayed, and, when I could get online, it was for a quick 10-15 minutes in an internet cafe.
However, I would still really love to share pictures of my trip with you all, as many of my blog-followers have been sending me messages, asking me to keep showing more from the honeymoon. For those of you who really couldn’t care less…well, disregard the next few days worth of posts and we’ll return to our regularly scheduled content next week or some time shortly thereafter.
The next stop on our trip after Zagreb was Plitvice Lakes National Park. This place was just breathtaking. I don’t think I’ve ever seen such majestic lakes anywhere else in the world, which makes it understandable why this is one of the biggest tourist destinations in the country. It can be difficult to get a sense of how big this place is until you notice the little people in the very center of this image…
Although it may look like I’ve enhanced the color of the water, it was actually much more vivid that what is shown here and much, much more blue. It was beautiful — like the Caribbean Sea in the mountains.
Secret spots, perfect for swimming (although swimming was strictly forbidden in order to protect the delicate travertine walls that hold up the sides of the terraced lakes).
Apparently, some thought that it would be okay to break the rules…but at least it made for a pretty photograph.
They offered a beautiful park for eating a picnic lunch.
This shows only two of the 16 terraced lakes, but it’s a better representation of how blue the water was.
A couple of pictures of us, only two days into our honeymoon. The best pictures were taken by our trusty guide, Robbie, shown below…
If there’s a secret place where they grow perfect guides, Robbie was from that place. He was funny, caring, and incredibly professional. REI should make some special “Awesome Guides” plaque with his face on it, lol!
These are all of the people who were on the REI Adventures trip with us, many of whom we now call our friends. Everyone was really great — we felt lucky to spend our honeymoon with them.
Coming up next — a full day of cycling through the pastoral Croatian countryside!
