Being prepared for your photography session is one of the most important aspects for a successful photo shoot, so here are my top five ways to prepare for your photography session.

1. Pick a Beautiful Location

Like real estate, amazing photo sessions are all about location. Sacramento has many stunning places to take pictures and, with so many options, you might be a little overwhelmed. The best way to chose a location is to pick somewhere meaningful to your family or contact me for recommendations since I’m familiar with a variety of locations all over the region.

2. Coordinate Clothing

The matching outfits of the 90’s were cute for that decade, but we want your photos to be representative of your personality and individuality. An easy way to find inspiration for outfits for family portraits is to head over to Pinterest. Search “what to wear for family portraits” to see layouts of coordinated outfits. If you book a session with me, you’ll receive a style guide that I’ve put together just for my clients.

3. Hair and Makeup

If you want to look your best on the day of our photo shoot, consider getting your hair and make-up done. You want to keep it simple and natural, but looking flawless at the same time. The types of sessions you may want to feel especially glamorous for are head shots, senior portraits, newborn sessions, and maternity portraits.

4. Incorporate Bits of Your Life

Do you have a favorite local spot your family likes to visit? Or maybe you have a hobby you want to incorporate? Photo shoots are a collaborative effort between us. My photography is light and fun, so don’t be afraid to be yourself! Dance to your favorite song, make silly faces, throw your kids in the air and have a good time! Photos are the most personal thing we own and should feel like you, so let your personality shine!
